Alien hand syndrome
Alien hand syndrome is when a person’s hand is not under the control of the person, and appears to have a mind of its own. While it sounds kind of funny, it is extremely rare and can be very terrifying to patients.
One case recorded a patient suffering from alien hand syndrome, where her hand was moving without her knowledge when she was watching television; her right hand stroked her face and hair, as if someone else controlled it.
The syndrome manifests as a self-oppositional behavior, and the alien hand can grab onto an object and the person may need to use other body parts to release the object from it.
The underlying cause of this syndrome includes tumors, neurosurgery and aneurysms. The condition can last for several days or even years, and the shortest duration of alien hand reported is 30 minutes. Unfortunately, currently there’s no treatment for Alien Hand Syndrome.
